Proxmox VLAN — No Physical Switch Required

Your VMs are talking to each other. You didn't allow that.

By default, every VM on Proxmox lands on the same virtual bridge. Same segment. Same broadcast domain. No isolation — unless you configure it.

Most homelab guides don't tell you that. This one does.

In this episode we expose the flat network problem that ships with every default Proxmox install. We demonstrate it live — Kali VM pinging a Windows VM with no firewall rule allowing it — then fix it using Proxmox SDN (Software Defined Networking) without touching a single piece of hardware. We walk through creating an SDN zone and VNet, show the one step most people miss (the Apply button that actually pushes config to the host), and prove isolation works by running the same ping after the fix. No response. Same box. Different result. After watching this episode you can isolate VM traffic on your Proxmox host using nothing but software — no managed switch required.
