Photo bagging to me is much like Munro Bagging, but instead of bagging specific mountains in Scotland over 3000ft, you go around bagging specific photo's at specific locations instead. Like Munro's, these photo's will have been bagged by someone else before you and in many cases, by hundreds of photographers before you. The tripod holes in the ground are often very telling of this. I would however rather create an image that if someone was stood by me on the day, they would unlikely have seen what I saw at the same time, unless I pointed it out. This is something that GuyTal articulates very well in his book "More than a Rock" and I agree with completely. However, in this video I head back to a location in the Peak District where three of my workshop clients recently photographed two scenes that I hadn't photographed myself (not Iconic scenes I might add). The second of the two shots I had previously taken a mental note of but certainly the first composition was new to me and I wanted to have a go at both. In landscape photography, the only way to truly stand out above the crowd is to produce unique photos to you but I still think photo bagging has its place. If you are new to landscape photography or nature photography, then photo bagging is certainly a recommendation by me as it's a great training exercise where you can cut your teeth along the road to more creative and expressive photography. I still enjoy it dabbling in it from time to time, because the hard work (finding the location or subject) is done before you even leave home. Please note that photography should never be at the expense of the environment, so choose your bagging spots carefully and make sure you are not adding to already excessive recreational pressure.
