Influence of Eastern History (India & China) on Psychology - Benjamin S., Jessica P., & Jahnavi P.

Benjamin Smith is a fourth year PhD candidate in the school psychology program at the University of Iowa. Prior to joining the program, he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin, and then worked with young autistic children in an applied behavior analysis clinic. More recently, he has worked in elementary schools designing individualized education plans, as well as performing psychoeducational assessments of children with attention and learning disabilities in hospital settings. His current research concerns the study of prosocial behavior development in children, as well as the academic benefits of social-emotional learning interventions.

Jess Pauley is a fourth-year Counseling Psychology PhD candidate at the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology from the University of Iowa. Additionally, working toward acquiring my certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC®). Currently, providing psychotherapy and related services to Division I student-athletes at the University of Iowa. Research interests in examining the barriers and benefits to sports participation for youth with autism spectrum disorder. Clinical interest in youth and young adult athletes.

Jahnavi Pandya, MA (India), is a Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa, USA. She is passionate about working with refugee and immigrant communities and studying ways to incorporate more culturally sensitive and inclusive mental health access. Jahnavi has been honored with the Karmaveer Puraskaar by the International Confederation of NGOs in partnership with the United Nations; the ‘Nari Ratna’ Award; and the 'Student of the Year’ Award from St. Xavier's College Mumbai. Her counseling and assessment experience in India and USA includes working with a diverse population, including refugees, immigrants, students, and people with serious mental health disorders, suicidal ideation, terminal illnesses, and trauma. She has collected over 6 lakh rupees for orphanages and old age homes through social media and has reached 50,000 students through her seminars and 3 million viewers on YouTube.
