RV 1.7
इन्द्रमिद् गाथिनो बृहद्
indram id gāthino bṛhad
Indra — the singers (loudly) [sing of]
इन्द्रमर्केभिरर्किणः
indram arkebhir arkiṇaḥ
Indra, the chanters, with their chants
इन्द्रं वाणीरनूषत
indraṃ vāṇīr anūṣata
Indra. the voices have hymned.
इन्द्रो दीर्घाय चक्षस
indro dīrghāya cakṣasa
Indra, for far-seeing,
आ सूर्यं रोहयद् दिवि
ā sūryaṃ rohayad divi
raised the sun up in the sky.
वि गोभिरद्रिमैरयत्
vi gobhir adrim airayat
With his rays he split open the rock.
इन्द्रं वयं महाधन
indraṃ vayaṃ mahādhane
Indra we call in the great-stake battle,
इन्द्रमर्भे हवामहे
indram arbhe havāmahe
Indra in the small fight we invoke
युजं वृत्रेषु वज्रिणम्
yujaṃ vṛtreṣu vajriṇam
the comrade, vajra-wielder, against enemies.
वृषा यूथेव वंसगः
vṛṣā yūtheva vaṃsagaḥ
Like a bull moving through the herd,
कृष्टीरियर्त्योजसा
kṛṣṭīr iyarty ojasā
he drives the peoples on with his might
ईशानो अप्रतिष्कुतः
īśāno apratiṣkutaḥ
the ruler, irresistible.
य एकश्चर्षणीनां
ya ekaś carṣaṇīnāṃ
He who alone, over the working folk,
वसूनामिरज्यति
vasūnām irajyati
rules over their wealth
इन्द्रः पञ्च क्षितीनाम्
indraḥ pañca kṣitīnām
Indra, [lord] of the five tribes.
इन्द्रं वो विश्वतस्परि
indraṃ vo viśvatas pari
Indra, for your sake, from every side,
हवामहे जनेभ्यः
havāmahe janebhyaḥ
we call him away from other peoples.
अस्माकमस्तु केवलः
asmākam astu kevalaḥ
May he be ours, ours alone.
RV 2.12
यो हत्वाहिमरिणात् सप्त सिन्धून्
yo hatvāhim ariṇāt sapta sindhūn
Who, having slain the serpent, released the seven rivers;
यो गा उदाजदपधा वलस्य
yo gā udājad apadhā valasya
who drove out the cows from Vala's hiding place;
यो अश्मनोरन्तरग्निं जजान
yo aśmanor antar agniṃ jajāna
who generated fire between two stones;
संवृक् समत्सु स जनास इन्द्रः
saṃvṛk samatsu sa janāsa indraḥ
the seizer in battles, He, O folk, is Indra!
येनेमा विश्वा च्यवना कृतानि
yenemā viśvā cyavanā kṛtāni
By whom all these worlds were made to shake;
यो दासं वर्णमधरं गुहाकः
yo dāsaṃ varṇam adharaṃ guhā kaḥ
who put the dāsa folk down into hiding;
श्वघ्नीव यो जिगीवाँल्लक्षमादद्
śvaghnī iva yo jigīvāṃ lakṣam ādad
who, like a winning gambler, took the stake;
अर्यः पुष्टानि स जनास इन्द्रः
aryaḥ puṣṭāni sa janāsa indraḥ
seized the rich man's wealth, He, O folk, is Indra!
यः शम्बरं पर्वतेषु क्षियन्तं
yaḥ śambaraṃ parvateṣu kṣiyantaṃ
Who found Śambara dwelling in the mountains
चत्वारिंश्यां शरद्यन्वविन्दत्
catvāriṃśyāṃ śaradi anvavindat
in the fortieth autumn he tracked him down;
ओजायमानं यो अहिं जघान
ojāyamānaṃ yo ahiṃ jaghāna
who slew the dragon flaunting his might,
दानुं शयानं स जनास इन्द्रः
dānuṃ śayānaṃ sa janāsa indraḥ
the demon lying in his lair, He, O folk, is Indra!
यः सप्तरश्मिर्वृषभस्तुविष्मान्
yaḥ saptaraśmir vṛṣabhas tuviṣmān
Who, the seven-reined mighty bull,
अवासृजत् सर्तवे सप्तसिन्धून्
avāsṛjat sartave saptasindhūn
released the seven rivers to flow;
यो रौहिणमस्फुरद् वज्रबाहुर्
yo rauhiṇam asphurad vajrabāhur
who, vajra-armed, kicked Rauhiṇa apart
द्यामारोहन्तं स जनास इन्द्रः
dyām ārohantaṃ sa janāsa indraḥ
as he was climbing the sky, He, O folk, is Indra!
यः शश्वतो मह्येनो दधानान्
yaḥ śaśvato mahyeno dadhānān
Who struck many great sinners
अमन्यमानाञ्छर्वा जघान
amanyamānāñ charvā jaghāna
unsuspecting, with his hurled weapon;
यः शर्धते नानुददाति शर्ध्यां
yaḥ śardhate nānudadāti śardhyāṃ
who grants no boldness back to the boaster;
यो दस्योर्हन्ता स जनास इन्द्रः
yo dasyor hantā sa janāsa indraḥ
the slayer of the dasyu, He, O folk, is Indra!
