How to use the Wave Designer Effects unit in the Behringer and Midas digital consoles. FX tutorial for the Wave Designer. The Wave Designer resides as part of the built in FX options in the Behringer X32, X-Air / XR18 series of digital mixers as well as the Midas M32 and MR18 versions.
It allows users to manipulate the transient of the audio waveform to emphasize or de-emphasize attack. It also allows you to increase or decrease sustain of that initial transient as well. It can bring dull drums or percussion to life, or push an overly percussive bass guitar more into the background to better set in the mix if that is what you want. Or bring it out more.

Since it works on the transient, it excels on percussive instruments. From drums to percussion (congas, bongos, etc...) to slap bass and even upright bass guitar.

Since it's not a gate or EQ, it allows you some creative freedom, and another tool to attack problems, or mixing visions, that other tools can't quite do. It's a great tool for live audio mixing, but also works in the studio as well.

I'm demonstrating it mainly on the X-Air Edit PC software connected to an XR18, although there's also a bit of the X32's X-Edit PC software showing as well. It can also be loaded and controlled directly on the surface of the X32 and M32 consoles. X-Air Edit and X Edit software are available for the Mac and all versions are downloadable at the Behringer website.
The mixers, and the built in Wave Designer plugin, can be controlled from iPad and Android software such as Mixing Station as well.

I have uploaded XR18 scene used in this video, as well as the drum tracks, to the Patreon Page if any patrons want to experiment with them. The best way to learn the Wave Designer, once you know what the controls do, is just to use it and listen.
