What is RAM?
RAM, random access memory, is where apps, data, and components of the operating system in use are stored.
How to check RAM usage?
Open Activity Monitor.
Look at Memory Pressure. If your chart is primarily red and yellow, your Mac cries for fresh memory.
How to reduce Mac’s memory usage:
1. Remove Login Items
System Settings - General. Look for Open at Login—select programs you don’t want to load on a startup and click the “–.”
2. Wipe out RAM in one click with CleanMyMac X:

Open the app and go to the Maintenance tab.
Click Free Up RAM, then click Run.
3. Free up disk space
Go to Settings - General - Storage. Here you can see the breakdown of your Mac storage. Choose the files you want to remove and click Delete.
4. Clean up your Desktop
Control-click your Desktop and select Use Stacks to keep your Desktop clean.
5. Tune up Chrome’s Task Manager
Chrome settings - More tools - Task Manager. Close the GPU process by clicking End Process next to it to free up RAM on your Mac.
6. Close Finder windows
Click on Finder - Window - Merge All Windows.
7. Restart your Mac
