“Just like we get infected by viruses or bacteria, computers get infected by malware. Malware is malicious software that can harm your device or steal your data.

A common type of malware is computer viruses. They use parts of your system to replicate themselves.

Trojans are like a Trojan horse. They sneak onto your computer disguised as a normal program.

Worms are malware that uses computer networks to spread. Unlike viruses, worms don’t need a host to run.

Keyloggers track your keyboard to steal your passwords and other data.

Some malware encrypts your files and demands a ransom for decryption. That is called ransomware.

Spyware can record your calls, messages, screen activity, and video.

Malware that bombards you with ads is called adware. It slows down your computer and can damage the system.

Browser hijackers take control of your browser. They can alter the settings and redirect you to malicious websites.

Malware that gives cybercriminals administrator access is called Rootkit.

Botnets can infect thousands of devices and create a whole network controlled by malicious actors.

Your best protection from malware is an anti-malware program. You should also remember to: block pop-up ads, use an account with limited permissions, and be cautious about links and email attachments.”
