Halo's Cortana was RETCONNED - Game Developer Explains Why
In this game development/narrative design video essay, I discuss my theory that in Halo Combat Evolved, before any other games were made or books were written, Cortana was simply meant to be an advanced AI for the Pillar of Autumn. When Captain Keyes ordered everyone to abandon ship she had to go with the Master Chief, off the ship for the first time and help him out, giving an excuse for the player to have an assistant.
