How to Replace the Electrode Assembly on your Horizontal Electrophoresis System | IBI Scientific
The IBI Scientific Horizontal Electrophoresis systems have been designed and manufactured for years of reliable service but also for ease of repair and refurbishment.
The platinum wire inside the buffer tank creates the electrical field for the electrophoretic gel run. These platinum wires, over time, can fatigue and break. IBI Horizontal units allow for easy replacement of the electrode assembly.

The Replacement Tank Connector Kit is compatible with the following units:
• QSH Lab-Pal Horizontal Electrophoresis System (IB50000)
• QS-710 Quick Screen Horizontal Electrophoresis System (IB51000)
• MP-1015 Multi-Purpose Horizontal Electrophoresis System (IB53000)
• HR-2025 High Resolution Horizontal Electrophoresis System (IB56000)
• HR-2525 High Resolution/High-Throughput Horizontal Electrophoresis System (IB57000)

1. Remove the cap nut from the tank connector of the corresponding broken electrode assembly.
2. Unwrap the remaining platinum wire from the tank connector. Keep the neoprene washers on the tank connector for re-use.
3. Using a needle nose pliers, grasp the electrode support and using a lateral motion, remove it from the slot in the buffer tank.
4. Remove the new electrode assembly from the package.
5. Using the needle-nose pliers, insert the electrode assembly into the slots in the buffer tank.
6. Carefully wrap platinum wire on to the threaded portion of the tank connector next to the washer, be certain to maintain slack in the wire leading into the tank.
7. Place 2nd washer against wrapped platinum wire and thread correct corresponding cap nut (red or black) on to the tank connector.
