Clocking in a Mastering Studio: The Test You Didn’t Expect
Clocking in a mastering studio is one of the most debated topics in digital audio — especially when it comes to who should be the master clock.
In this video, I compare three different clocking setups using the same source material:
AD converter as master
Audio interface (LIO-8) via AES
External masterclock (MUTEC MC-3+)
No processing changes were made — only the clock hierarchy changes. This allows you to hear how ADC clocking, AES clocking, and external masterclock setups affect the final sound.
This video is a listening experiment: there is no “right” or “wrong” clocking, only differences to hear and decide for yourself.
