Choose several well-tested tires in the desired size and then compare the prices from various suppliers. Make sure that balancing, mounting, and valves are included in the price. Also check prices online; it can be cheaper to order/reserve online in advance than to go directly to the store.
Don't simply accept an offer for a different brand and type of tire; make sure the size and specifications of the tire are correct. When purchasing tires, please refer to the sizes and specifications of the tires currently fitted. The correct size is often not listed in the car manual because multiple sizes are listed, depending on the model and subject to change. Consult your dealer if a different tire size is required.
Preferably/if possible, replace the front or rear tires at the same time, using two identical tires on one axle and the best tires on the rear. Many suppliers offer a lower price per tire when purchasing two or more tires (second tire half price, fourth tire free, etc.).
Replace tires if the tread depth is less than 2 mm.
Tires with shallow tread depth lose their grip, especially on wet roads; a minimum of 1.6 mm is legally required. Also replace tires if they are damaged, show signs of dry cracking, or are no older than 10 years old (sometimes even earlier), even if they are not yet worn and have no visible damage.
Rubber ages and loses its properties. High temperatures and sunlight accelerate this aging process, reducing handling and braking performance.
