Robert Brandom - Kant And Hegel's Concept Of Discourse
Some associate the term "discourse" with pretentiousness, with empty display of one's sophistication, or with a naive desire to read the great philosophical debates into culture at large. Others may associate this term with Lacanian psychoanalysis, with the Foucaultian "Archaeology of Knowledge," or both. In this video, the philosophical roots of the idea of discourse are discussed. In the process of watching, you will notice that an important facet of the work of philosophers such as Foucault is missed by the reader if this history of the idea is not grasped.
