How does CPM work to get you paid for your YouTube channel?

CPM is the Cost Per Mille. That's how much advertisers pay YouTube for 1000 ad impressions seen on your channel.

You can look at your CPM across your channel, but it's much better to dig down into CPM for your highest earning videos.

The CPM is dependent on the audience.

For example, the audience for this video you're looking at is most likely:
people with a YouTube channel
who are already part of the YouTube Partner Program
and are making some money from YouTube ads (but not enough).

Or you may be watching this video because you want to get your 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours so you can start earning money from YouTube ads.

Advertisers for courses, video editing software or tools, and productivity software are more likely to be targeting this video.

Watch the video to see how to drill down into CPM, and see why CPM changes from day to day, even on a single video.
