Step 1: Plug it in, the light will turn blue, then orange to show when it’s ready for setup
Step 2: Install the “Alexa app” to your phone or tablet
Step 3: Log in with your Amazon.com account information, or create a new user id if you don’t have one yet
Step 4: Select “Add Device“, “Amazon Echo“, “Echo“, “Continue“. Your echo light should be orange, if not, press and hold the action button for six seconds to activate the setup.
Step 5: Once the light is orange, select your Wi-Fi and log in with your password.
That's it!
The echo has a LOT of features or “skills” that you can tailor to your preferences. You can ask Alexa to play music, control smart home devices (like your smart lights and thermostats), add to your shopping list, or tell you a bedtime story.
If you want, you can change the wake word to something else, like “Amazon” for example, so you don’t confuse the echo with names that sound similar.
