Have you ever wondered why Jupiter is so much larger than the other planets in our solar system? It turns out that Jupiter is not a typical planet but a failed star. Jupiter is primarily composed of hydrogen and helium, just like our Sun. Astronomers believe that during the formation of our solar system, Jupiter began collecting dust and gas, gradually growing. However, it never reached the necessary mass to initiate nuclear fusion and become a star. If Jupiter were approximately 80 times more massive, it would have achieved the heat and density required to ignite fusion and transform into a star. Instead, Jupiter ended up as a gas giant, proudly holding the title of the largest planet in our solar system.
