"Mihai Eminescu" Theater in Botoșani reopened 110 years after its first premiere
On Saturday, December 21, Botoșani celebrated a historic moment: the reopening of the “Mihai Eminescu” Theater, a traditional cultural institution of the city. The event had a special significance, marking exactly 110 years since the premiere of the first play performed on this stage, on December 21, 1914.
The “Mihai Eminescu” Theater, built between 1912 and 1914, has gone through numerous trials throughout its history. Following the bombings of 1944, the building was severely damaged and rebuilt in 1958, in an architectural style specific to the communist regime, which did not reflect its original splendor. Thus, in 2023, the building was reopened to the public in a revitalized form, preserving its historical charm and integrating modern architectural elements.
The official reopening of the theater was marked by an exceptional performance: “Intrigue and Love” by Friedrich Schiller, directed by Dumitru Acriș. The play, a masterpiece of European dramaturgy, brought emotion and theatrical mastery to the stage, in a space that has regained its brilliance and cultural importance. The performance was received with great enthusiasm by the Botoșani audience, who enjoyed a memorable evening of theater.
