Why Do Astronauts Wear Oranges and White ?
Each spacesuit has a different name and function. The orange one is called the Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES) and the white one is called the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) suit.
The different colors of spacesuits have a specific reason.
The orange Advanced Crew Escape Suit (ACES) spacesuit is used to protect astronauts when boarding and disembarking the shuttle. The orange color chosen is not just any orange, but a very striking International Orange. This color is easily visible, especially at sea.
Extravehicular Activity (EVA) spacesuits are thicker and white in color. This is because the white color can reflect the sun's intense heat. Also, the white color contrasts with the darkness of space.
Different spacesuits are designed for different purposes.
ACES is designed to help astronauts survive in the event of an accident when the shuttle takes off or lands. EVAs, on the other hand, are designed specifically for activities outside the shuttle, such as walking in space.
