Fading child star Packard meets his persistent agent, Theo. Theo informs him that Packard's younger rival, Dickie, has a good chance of landing a role in an upcoming television series, for which they are both auditioning. But Packard devises a plan to land the role before the dreaded fairy of teenage hormones smears her dust over him and ruins his career.

This money is not available to their parents, but is received by the actor upon reaching adulthood. It is named after Jackie Coogan, who played the title role in Charlie Chaplin's 1921 film "The Kid."
The "Shatner Wig" refers to actor William Shatner's role as Captain Kirk in the television series "Star Trek." A special wig was made for the role.
