DIY Ribbon Microphone
The microphone has a dual-directional pattern (figure eight), meaning the microphone "hears" sound from both the front and back.
Without an additional amplifier, the signal level, even with a transformer, is weak, and you have to speak very close to the microphone, which is why you hear mumbled accents on the "B" and "P" notes. Overall, I liked the sound; it's probably one of the best homemade capsules. I think I could build a better version with a preamp and a proper enclosure someday.
The magnet poles can be determined using a Hall sensor, or I can use my method: connect all the magnets together; they tend to align with opposite poles: one pole facing you, the other away from you.
