The infrastructure of major cloud providers and private data centers can span dozens of geographical regions. With this infrastructure, you can quickly design and build solutions that run across regions, countries, and continents for reliability, compliance, and performance.
During this workshop, you’ll do a deep dive in and receive hands-on experience with four primary multi-region deployment options of YugabyteDB. We’ll take a sample geo-distributed application to learn how to select a multi-region deployment, how to maintain read/write latencies for users across the planet – regardless of location, how to comply with data residency requirements such as GDPR, and how to withstand natural disasters, power outages, and human made incidents, and more.
What You’ll Learn and How You Can Apply It
By the end of this workshop, you’ll understand:
-Issues associated with single-zone and single-region database deployments.
-Four primary multi-region deployment options of YugabyteDB.
-How to properly configure and deploy YugabyteDB clusters that are deployed across multiple regions.
-How to accelerate read latency performance in distant locations with read replicas.
-How to serve user requests with low latency (reads & writes) regardless of location with a geo-partitioned YugabyteDB cluster.
-How to comply with the data residency requirements by pinning user data to specific geo-locations.
-How to deploy multiple clusters across geographies and synchronize them in real time.
Prerequisite
-Experienced Java developers with in-depth knowledge of multi-threading, networking, event-driven and microservices architectures.
-Practical experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
-Practical experience working with containerized as well as public/private cloud environments.
Course Setup
All you need is a GitHub account. The workshop project is hosted in GitHub and designed for Gitpod, which sets up a required development environment for you. So, just allow Gitpod to use your GitHub account when you start any project in Gitpod for the first time.
Alternatively, you can run the project in Docker on your laptop. In this case, the requirements are as follows:

-Your favorite IDE, such as IntelliJ IDEA, or Eclipse, or Visual Studio Code
