Divers Find Sunken Nazi Submarine: What They Found Inside Contradicts the Entire History
At a depth of 73 meters off the coast of New Jersey, divers discovered a completely intact German submarine that was not on any map. For half a century, official records placed the U-869 sunken near Morocco. But a metal plate found inside the hull shattered that version: the submarine lay thousands of kilometers from where official history had placed it.
The discovery contradicted decades of Allied and German archives. In 1945, the attack that actually sank the U-869 was classified as "no damage." The American escorts Howard D. Crow and Koiner reported contact, fired Hedgehog mortars and depth charges, but with no visible debris on the surface, the engagement was filed away and forgotten. Meanwhile, another attack in African waters was credited without any physical evidence.
The investigation cost six years and three lives. Technical divers repeatedly descended to deadly depths, facing nitrogen narcosis, treacherous currents, and collapsed compartments. Inside the submarine, they found a knife engraved with the surname "Horenburg," intact radio equipment, and finally, the definitive plaque attached to a generator. Each object revealed the names, roles, and fates of 56 men whose families had lived for half a century with the wrong coordinates.
