How do I connect a new alternator to a Gazelle when upgrading from a carburetor to an injector?
In this short video, I explain how I connected an alternator to a Gazelle with an injector engine.
I simply took a wire from the connector that connected to the old alternator and soldered a 10A diode into it, then connected it to the D terminal on the alternator.
If this diode is not soldered into this alternator wire, the engine will not be able to be stopped with the ignition key. After turning the ignition key, the engine will continue to run until you remove the wire from the D terminal on the alternator.
This happens because when the ignition is turned off, voltage from the alternator flows through this wire into the vehicle's electrical system. The diode acts as a limiter, allowing voltage in one direction but not in the other. Therefore, when the ignition is turned off, the electrical system is de-energized and the engine stalls.
This is how I connected a new alternator, replacing the old one that was on a carburetor engine.
