I made a German grammar quiz to check your core skills — and here are the correct answers + short explanations.
Level: A2–B2

Quick examples I use:
💬 „der Baum / die Bäume“ (gender + plural)
💬 „Der Lehrer spricht über den Klimawandel.“ (V2 word order)

— Answer Key (with explanations) —

1. Noun (das Nomen / das Substantiv)
Both terms are standard; Nomen is common in school grammar, Substantiv is the linguistic label.

2.1) Neuter = (das) Neutrum
2.2) Masculine = (das) Maskulinum → Artikel: der
2.3) Feminine = (das) Femininum → Artikel: die; Plural → die
Example: der Baum (sg.), die Bäume (pl.).

3. „Dot“ = der Punkt; die Punkte.

4. Verb position / sentence type
In „Der Lehrer spricht über den Klimawandel.“ the verb spricht is in position 2 (V2) — a declarative main clause (not an exclamation).
Translation: “The teacher is speaking / speaks about climate change.”

5. Umlaut
ä, ö, ü are the three German umlaut letters. In über, ü is an umlaut. (der Umlaut; die Umlaute)

6. Passive voice
„Euch wird etwas beigebracht.“ = impersonal passive with wird + Partizip II (beigebracht). Euch is a dative object.
Natural translation: “You are being taught something.”

7. Pronoun (das Pronomen; Plural: die Pronomen / Pronomina)
A pronoun stands in for a noun: Paul isst. → Er isst.

8. Object pronoun (Akkusativ)
In „Der Lehrer unterrichtet uns.“ the word uns is the direct object (Akkusativ).

9. Capitalization of nouns
Statement A = true, B = false. All German nouns are capitalized: der Baum.

10. Gender terms
Everyday term: das Geschlecht; die Geschlechter.
Linguistic term: das Genus; die Genera → Maskulinum, Femininum, Neutrum.

If you liked this, tell me which topic to quiz next — articles with weak nouns (der Junge – den Jungen), word order with nicht, or weil/denn.

❓ FAQ
Q: How can I guess noun gender reliably?
A: Learn article patterns (e.g., nouns ending in -ung, -keit, -heit → usually die), and memorize exceptions with chunks (e.g., das Mädchen, der Junge).
Q: Is verb-second (V2) always required in main clauses?
A: In standard main clauses, yes — one constituent in first position, the finite verb in second; the rest follows (subject/object/adverbs).
