▸ Retina Structure – Summary
The retina is responsible for the perception of light stimuli. It consists of several layers of nerve cells, a layer of light-sensitive cells (photoreceptors), and an opaque pigment layer. Adjacent to the retina is the choroid, which supplies the retina with nutrients and oxygen. At a point on the retina, also known as the blind spot, the optic nerve (nervus opticus) emerges.
