Vincent D’Onofrio had to gain a lot of weight to play Kingpin in Marvel's Daredevil TV series, as well appearances in other shows such as The Punisher.
To gain the weight, he says he maintains his training but just increases the amount of food he eats. He never stops working out, he simply "changes size" based on how much he's consuming, so he never loses his strength or his fitness.
Vincent says he loves the character of Wilson Fisk/Daredevil, but at his age, gaining and losing weight all the time is bad for his health.
But he is hoping to play the character for the foreseeable future due to the use of prosthetics. In later Marvel series such as Hawkeye and Echo, he had wore what he calls a "Muscle Fat Suit". This increases the size of his shoulders, chest and arms, as well as providing some "extra girth" around his mid section.
However, even with the muscle fat suits, he says he still needs to gain a little weight to give him the round face. But he says that's easy for him to do given his Italian heritage.
