A perennial problem in our courtyards: some want peace and safety, while others want a shortcut through the traffic jam and turn the courtyard into a bypass. In this video, I show a real-life situation: I'm parked in a courtyard, blocking the through traffic to prevent minibuses and other drivers from flying under my windows. Suddenly, a minibus pulls into the courtyard, followed by a whole column of cars.
The driver gets out and asks, "Why are you blocking the road?" I have to remind him of a simple truth: this isn't a road, it's a courtyard where children play and pensioners stroll. The passenger starts complaining that I'm making him late for work, but no one wants to turn back because there's a traffic jam on the main road. A typical argument ensues: "We're not bothering anyone," "Just let us get through," "Well, you understand..."

At some point, I simply say: if you want a bypass, look for one outside the courtyard. This is no place for transit or racing through puddles and ice between entrances. Eventually, the minibus driver decides to turn around, gets behind the wheel, and the entire traffic jam starts backing up. It looks both comical and sad: until we start defending the courtyard ourselves, it will continue to be used as a free bypass.
Filmed without any staged footage, an ordinary winter day in a Russian courtyard. Let us know in the comments how things are going for you: do "smart drivers" drive through your courtyard, what to do about it, and where is the line drawn between driver convenience and courtyard safety.
