Goodbye Sprays: Mixing Chalk Paint for the Tilswall Hornet
In today's video, we tackle a classic and costly problem in laser engraving workshops: the reliance on expensive spray cans to opaque surfaces that diode lasers don't natively accept, such as clear glass, mugs, or vitreous enamel.
We test the Tilswall Hornet cordless paint gun using regular chalk paint from a can, the kind you can buy at any hardware store. I'll show you the detailed step-by-step process for calibrating the mixture using the kit's viscometer, finding the sweet spot of flow (between 25 and 30 seconds) to avoid drips or runs.
We'll see a live demonstration on a ceramic tile, a mug, and a wine glass, and I'll show you the laser results without any tricks: from the mediocre results due to insufficient titanium oxide concentration in the glass, to the perfect definition achieved on the tile with the Betis crest. Finally, we analyzed whether a 450-gram, comfortable, battery-powered tool has a real place in digital woodworking, saving us a lot of money on consumables.
