There are CAN-Bus Interfaces and then there is the UART System. Modern day vehicles now push a multitude of data across the platform that typically is lost when fitting an aftermarket stereo.
If you have a Volkswagen and want to retain features such as Steering Wheel Controls, Parking Sensor Display, Climate Control, Driver Information & Vehicle Specific Settings then a standard interface will not suffice, you will need the UART.
This video explains all the different features of what the UART offers when installed with an Alpine Stereo, in this instance the Alpine Halo 9 when fitted to a VW Transporter T6.
