Hike to Murudzhinsky Lakes // Teberdinsky Reserve
One of the most interesting hikes this year turned out to be just this one, to the Murudzhinsky Lakes. The lakes are located in the Murudzh gorge, 17 kilometers from the Teberda valley. The most famous of them are the Black and Blue lakes. The lakes got their names because of the color of their water. Both were formed due to the avalanche of glacial moraines. Over time, the cavities created by rocks and ice blocks filled with meltwater.
Blue Lake is considered the largest in the Teberda Nature Reserve. Its length reaches 500 meters, and the depth in some places exceeds 50. Black Lake is located a little higher than Blue. The reservoirs are located at an altitude of about 2800 meters above sea level. The best viewing point is considered to be a small ridge running between the two lakes. In addition to Black and Blue, at the source of the Ulu-Murudzhu River there are many smaller nameless lakes of tarn origin, including Pansy. The road to the Murudzhinsky Lakes takes at least 2 days. But Seryoga and I decided to try to conquer this beautiful place in one. To get to the place, you need at least a minimal level of training and comfortable shoes. It is easy to get lost in the paths, so most tourists turn to guides. We went using the OsmAnd Maps app. In order to get to the lakes, you need to have a pass from the Teberda Nature Reserve. At any point along the way, you can meet rangers who check for it.
To enjoy this amazing place, you really need to go with at least one overnight stay.
Total length of the track from the Teberda valley to the lakes: 17 km
Maximum altitude: 3100 meters
Elevation gain to the Ulu-Murudzha valley: 1000 meters
Elevation gain from the camp to the lakes: 700 meters
