Minecraft - Bukkit Server Tutorial: Full Setup + Plugins & Portforwarding [WIN/MAC/LINUX]
This tutorial will teach you how to setup a minecraft server running bukkit on windows, mac, and linux. The tutorial includes full server configuration, installing plugins, updating bukkit, and port forwarding. I have uploaded the folder including everything for the convenience and ease of our viewers. Essentials, WorldEdit, and WorldGuard come pre-installed so that you are able to get playing with your friends immediately after port-forwarding!

Open Port Checker - http://canyouseeme.org/ (Make sure your server is running or it will always show the port as closed!)
Find Your IP Address (Internal/External) - http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/ (You use the internal to port forward, and give your friends the external IP.)
Other Tips:
-Read and ask questions in the Bukkit forums, they are very helpful! @ http://forums.bukkit.org/
-When Minecraft updates are released, make sure you do not update until a Bukkit build is out, or you will be pissed when you cannot access your servers. Pass along this info to anyone else who plays on your server as well.
-You can setup a hostname for a dynamic IP address for free with DynDNS. @ http://www.dyndns.org/
-If you are having issues with griefing and other issues, look into Permissions plugin. Essentials has the ability to disable commands in general for users, but doesn't offer the advanced features of allowing certain users and not others.
