Both Hands: Fundraising for Adoption
There are so many needs in the world, like orphaned children, fundraising for adoption, and widows who need help fixing their home. It’s a remarkable thing when fulfilling one need can help provide for another need. JT Olson knows all about this as the founder and president of the Nashville-based nonprofit Both Hands.
Both Hands helps families raise money for adoption by working on widows’ houses.
JT grew up experiencing the power of community support after his parents’ tragic death. When he was in seventh grade, both of his parents died in a car accident. He remembers that feeling – when everything that tethered him in life was cut off. He also knows what it’s like to be rescued. His aunt and uncle took in JT and all 4 of his siblings after his parents’ fatal accident. The feeling of someone coming in and saying, “I’ve got you. It’s going to be okay,” stuck with him all his life. And that’s a feeling he hopes to pass on to orphans and widows through Both Hands.

I founded Adoption & Beyond in 1998, an adoption agency that actually answers your questions, explains the process, and walks you through every step. I spent over a decade creating genuine connections between birth and adoptive families. Then life threw me the most beautiful plot twist—we adopted our daughter, Shayla. My husband and I already had four kids, but when the call came about an 8-year-old girl who needed a home, we said yes.
That experience—both professional and personal—provided on-the-job training and taught me what truly matters. Adoption works when you have the right information and support, not just at placement but long after the "welcome home" balloons are gone.
Today, with 30+ years in the adoption profession, I walk beside families navigating this journey with transparency and education.
