Microsoft Access - Compact and Repair

Compact and Repair is used to 'de-clutter' the inners of your Access database and optimize things. It can results in an overall file size reduction and increase in database performance. It is also used to 'reset' the AutoNumber numbering value. That said, Compact and Repair has been known to potentially pose a risk, so backups are a critical component of safely performing the compaction of your database.
