From a physical perspective, what happens during a horizontal throw?
This tutorial uses an example to explain the terms flight duration and flight distance for a horizontal throw. These quantities can be calculated using the two partial movements s = v * t and h = 0.5 * g * t^2, which result from free fall. v is the speed and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

A small hint: to be physically exact, it must be: s = 1/2 * g * t^2 and not -1/2 * g * t^2.
I added the minus sign to show that the ball is falling downward, but if the acceleration due to gravity is +g and thus the formula t = square root (2s/g) is used, then s is also equal to + 1/2 * g * t^2.
