Context:
Alec and Raine did know each other as kids. Alec’s father died when he was a child, living his absent mother to care for him. So he made some strange friends. Raine being one. However, Raine was instructed by his elders to fight Alec if he ever wanted to be a high commander like them. So he did, and the end of the fight left his wings plucked and burnt (little Alec was not messing around)
