The book that brought her celebrity, was the "inside story of our body's most underrated organ."
It sold over one million copies in Germany and was published in English, French, Italian and other translations.
Enders was in the doctoral program (PhD) in gastroenterology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
In 2012, she won first prize in the Science Slam in Freiburg im Breisgau
Enders received an offer to write a book on this subject which became a bestseller shortly after release in March 2014. The drawings in the books did her older sister Jill Enders.
In his book, Julia explains the functions and importance of the human gastrointestinal tract. She also criticizes the excess of hygiene in society and its impact on the immune system (hygiene hypothesis).
She is currently working on his dissertation on the topic Acinetobacter baumannii, which can lead to infected wounds, respiratory diseases and septicaemia. After that she wanted to become a gastroenterologist.
