This is a scene I created as an assignment for my Applied Game Art class at SCAD. This video will be submitted to the Rookies.

The scene I have created is a depiction of a bedroom of an urban area that has been converted into a sniper’s nest by an assumed Soviet Union soldier. The scene is a fictional one, but if it were to be based on a specific war it would have to be Soviet-Afghan War that began in 1979. The war was between the US backed Mujahideen, and the Soviet Army and the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. This was a Cold war proxy war that left up to two-million innocent people dead, and made half of the world's refugees in the 1980s Afghan refugees. The Dragunov SVD, which is depicted in this scene, was one of the weapons employed by the
Soviets during this time. Though there is no character in this scene, it is made clear that someone has been living in this space for quite a while from the empty cans and tally marks on
the wall. It is assumed that this sniper enjoys the communist ideals of the Soviet Union in that they have surrounded themselves with propaganda, as if to remind themself what they are
fighting for. Conflicts like this were part of the reason why terrorist groups, like the ones depicted in the film American Sniper (which this scene was initially inspired by), have access to
weapons like the Dragunov (which is one of the weapons the character Mustafa uses) and the AK-47 (also a weapon from the era of the Soviet Union).
