Cable Route 5.2 / Top Rope Solo / Mt Rubidoux
Fresh air, music on the boombox, and a super fun day of climbing at Mt Rubidoux, Riverside, California. Located in the Half Dome climbing area, the Cable Route 5.2 is a great introduction to first time climbers. There are two bolts at the top for top roping.
For my self belay, I'm using a Petzl Microtraxion connected to my belay loop (along with a chest harness holding it up and in place), and a second micro as my back up connected to my harness loops. With the rope weighted by my haulbag or extra rope, both devises move up the 9mm static rope smoothly. Back story about my climbing: I loved climbing back when I was in my teens and twenties but had not climbed again until I was 60. After coming to Yosemite year after year photographing the different seasons, and seeing rock climbers up on the walls doing their thing, the urge to climb slowly started seeping back into my mind. I happened to be in the valley on my 60th birthday, and it was on that day that I went into the mountain shop and bought a rope, shoes, harness, Grigri, Microtrax and chock bag. With help from Youtube, and having met some amazing climbing friends here in the valley, I was able to relearn the basics and even some new techniques such as Top Rope Soloing. New for me that is. Super stoked to be back up on the rock climbing at age 63! 🧗
