Chapter 3: Marilla Cuthbert is Surprised
Anne's arrival at Green Gables leaves Mrs. Marilla a little surprised, as she was expecting a boy, as agreed with Mrs. Spencer, the orphanage's director. Mrs. Marilla's hospitality for little Anne isn't the best, but Mr. Matthew's silences and disagreements in favor of the little girl will lead to new reflections and possible changes.
