This week marks the end of the embryonic period. The fetus has grown to 4 cm and now has fingers and toes. The head now accounts for about half of the fetus, as it has been growing most rapidly. The brain and central nervous system are developing. The heart has completed dividing into four chambers, and the heart valves are developing. The fetus's kidneys are beginning to function, and it is already capable of writing. Your baby's face is becoming more defined. The mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct, and the upper lip has formed. The major joints—the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles—are now functioning, allowing the fetus to move its limbs. However, the baby is not yet fully conscious; its eyes will remain closed until 27 weeks.

Hormonal levels cause mucous membranes to become loose and sensitive, which is why you may experience nosebleeds, nasal congestion, and bleeding gums. Similar changes occur in the vaginal mucosa, so your sexuality may undergo significant changes during pregnancy. You may not want to have sex, even though it wouldn't harm the fetus.

The recommendations remain the same: healthy foods, small portions, and frequent meals. Remember to avoid anything that could be harmful to the baby. Regarding medications, be sure to consult your doctor, midwife, or pharmacist, even if you have a slight fever, cough, or runny nose.
