Conversations on Law Enforcement, OSINT, and the Power of Digital Investigations

Some career paths don’t follow a straight line—and that’s exactly what makes them worth hearing.

For Episode #37 of the Cyber Tech Podcast, I had the opportunity to interview Dennis Keefe, an OSINT Analyst, Private Investigator, and former law enforcement professional whose career has uniquely blended public service, investigations, and technology.

Dennis shares his journey from working in corrections and becoming a peace officer to discovering how technology could be used as a powerful investigative tool. That path eventually led him into IT, open-source intelligence (OSINT), digital investigations, and private investigations, where he now helps uncover information through technology and investigative techniques.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this conversation was seeing how closely law enforcement and technology work together in today’s world. Dennis explains how investigative thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving remain valuable skills whether you’re working a case in the field or conducting digital investigations behind a computer.

We also had a great conversation about digital footprints and why it’s important for students, educators, and professionals to understand the information they share online. Dennis offers practical advice for tech teachers on helping students develop good digital habits early, while encouraging students to be intentional about building a positive online presence that can benefit them throughout their education and future careers.

In this episode, we discuss:

Dennis’ journey from corrections and law enforcement into technology
What an OSINT Analyst does and why open-source intelligence is becoming increasingly important
How investigative skills transfer into cybersecurity and digital investigations
The growing relationship between law enforcement and technology
The importance of understanding your digital footprint and protecting your online presence
Practical advice for tech teachers to help students become responsible digital citizens
Career advice for students and anyone interested in IT, cybersecurity, investigations, or OSINT
Encouragement for current law enforcement officers, corrections professionals, and peace officers who may be considering a transition into technology

If you’ve ever been curious about the investigative side of technology—or wondered how a background in public safety can open doors into cybersecurity and digital investigations—this episode is one you won’t want to miss.

A quick note: During the recording, I experienced some technical issues with my microphone on my end. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
