How to mine in Stonehearth. In This Step-Step guide i will show you the basics of mining in Stonehearth.

1. When building tunnels, there are two primary colors of dirt: the common brown type and the grey type which are found in higher elevations or at lower points if you keep digging.
2. Brown dirt has few resources but is the only place you can get clay.
3. Grey dirt has more of everything -- especially stone.
4. In addition, you will come across nodes of certain ore in your mines. Not sure if these occur in brown dirt, but they definitely do in grey. If you're looking for a particular ore in high quantities (like iron), keep an eye out. The color of these deposits match that of the ore.

Hello and welcome to another Stonehearth tutorial. Today we are looking at mining.
now we mine in Stonehearth by clicking on the harvest button
and once the harvest tab comes up we click on the mine tunnel icon.
and as you can see a 4 x 4 block appears and this is the area that is going to be mined. Now we go ahead and click that. Our little guys will go ahead and dig that through.
as you can see the 4 x 4 section has been dug out and that has lead us one block in. we can go ahead and dig a little further by clicking again on the mine tunnel tab and clicking on the area we want to mine. This will mine again a 4 x 4 space.
if we want to see our progress we click on the slice button, the terrain slice vision and then we can see the progress we are making through the mine.
now this can be altered so we can go up.
and down.
This works in 4x4 blocks much like the mining tool.
You can also use the x-ray vision button.
to see a complete overview of all the altered terrain.
so with our slice vision activated we can go ahead and mine a tunnel.
now this will give our guys a little extra work to do so we don’t have to keep coming back.
now the guys are finished but you will notice they haven’t actually acquired any stone or ore or any items at all. This is because they are digging directly into dirt as opposed to stone or clay.
I’m just going to go ahead and clear out a large area so we have some ground to play with.
Were about half way finished and have managed to pick up a few mounds of clay and a couple of hunks of stone.
so once the guys have finished we can take a look at the items acquired from digging into dirt.
now there are options to progress from here, we can either jet out into all directions or dig up or down.
Now we click on our mining tunnel and dig straight down as option one.
You may notice not all of the workers got stuck so we can use these guys on top to build a ladder.
so if we dig across now all we are going to do is expose a trench so now we dig down a further block.
Once we have done this we will build a ladder again, so we go into our design tab here called build and design then select construct a ladder.
Now we have built our ladder going down we can use our slice tool to follow the shaft down.
We then open up our mine tool once again and mine outwards.
Now this method is really useful for if there are no resources at your current level and you need to dig up or down to locate them.
I’m just going to go ahead and mine a larger area.
not too large this time.
now if your not to keen on the ladder option we can go ahead and build a staircase. We can do it with the mine block tool.
I find selecting blocks individually is best to be most accurate.
like so.
now we continue that all the way through until we build our staircase.
now here we have the completed staircase in the mineshaft so if we go ahead and use our slice tool we can scan through the different layers right to the bottom.
and of course this same technique can be used to build staircases up and down throughout your tunnels.
now just because your done mining in the area it doesn’t mean you have to be done with the space.
it has a single access point so its very easy to defend against goblin raiders and the undead.
and now we have a staircase we have a lower ground and an upper ground and on the lower ground we have our bedding.
We can create as many floors and as intricate as we want and have our very own city under the ground!
