A little update and explanation for the delays I've encountered. Being green to game-development (I do not feel that it would be proper to deny it) I've made some mistakes and those mistakes have cost me dearly in lost time. But, while I may have made a mistake that is not to say that it cannot also be a learning experience.
If you can go about working through how you want your game to play, you can then also work towards figuring out what you need to do and what you need to learn to get there. I understand that to some this is easy but for others this is our kryptonite. As in, it's something we'd rather do later but as you can tell, when you say you'll do it later, that tardiness can represent a significant amount of time lost and the frustrations that tend to come with these sorts of setbacks can be problematic.
Also, If you haven't tried Mecanim yet, at least get your feet wet! I've provided a link to the tutorial series that the team over at Unity Labs have put together and it does a wonderful job of explaining Mecanim.
