In 1939, the entire world witnessed the beginning of World War II. At that time, the United States entered the conflict after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. One of the many young men recruited for military service was private Joseph P. Williams.
Before the end of this conflict, Joseph was able to complete his studies at the University of Pennsylvania. After these life-changing events, young Williams found himself in a growing country and sought new opportunities. Thus, he roamed the streets looking for work. Through a twist of fate, he landed a job at a bank, where he met a person who would change his life.
This person would be the important and prominent Italian banker named Amadeo Giannini, who would become his mentor par excellence.
After a couple of years working and seeing the needs of bank users, an idea emerged in Joseph's mind. What initially seemed like a convenient way to make purchases without carrying cash everywhere ended up becoming a global phenomenon that remains the most iconic payment method, both digitally and in physical stores. The card expanded to more than 200 countries, forming its own entity, VISA Inc.
Did you know that the first cards arrived in the homes of families in Fresno, California, without requesting them? As part of the advertising campaign for this innovative method, in September 1958, 60,000 residents of the city received a curious piece of paper in the mail, containing a $300 credit card to use at local businesses. Its name was not "VISA," but "BankAmericard." Through mass media advertising, the bank informed citizens how to use it and where they could do so. 👉 Amancio Ortega: • ¿Cómo Paso De Mensajero A Millonario? Aman...
