Acute medical emergencies can happen to any of us, whether to family members or ourselves. But how do we decide when faced with the question of life-sustaining measures or artificial ventilation? And what exactly does the so-called patient's will mean? Many people are not always aware that Muslims also have a patient's will and must, of course, express it freely.
This explanatory video encourages viewers to engage with topics such as illness, patient will, and advance directives early on.
We know that patient decisions in existential situations are a difficult area. With this video, we do not intend to prescribe binding regulations for individual cases, but rather to stimulate an active discussion on these topics, enabling a religiously informed reflection on the patient's will.
This video was produced in collaboration between the AIWG (Islamic Working Group) and Dr. Assem Aweimer and Prof. Dr. Serdar Kurnaz, the authors of the AIWG's practical perspective "Islamic Legal Issues in Acute Medicine."
