In Edgerunners, David never really showcased his intellect, he must have been in that weird young adult stage. Oh and he was also on drugs and high on XBDs. Man his life was a mess, no wonder he tuned out the way he did. But there were 2 things shown in the show that tell us he's smart:
First off, he's top of his class at Arasaka Academy, where his mother, Gloria Martinez enrolled him.
Secondly, we see a glimpse of him using tech to try to figure out what the Sandevistan's specs are. Clearly, you need some brains for that.
It's just such a shame we never saw him use his brains at a particularly high level.
