A playthrough of the potential mid-boss Jyazu in the PS2 port of SNK’s The King of Fighters XI.

• #153 Kizuna Encounter Boss Hack (1/2): Jya...
Jyazu is a bloody great inclusion. The final boss of Kizuna Encounter, the sequel to Savage Reign, Jyazu was an insanely powerful, combo heavy character who effortlessly linked together moves into insanely powerful combos, mainly to make up for fighting at a numerical disadvantage.
Not only does Jyazu’s sprite look great here, but they’ve kept the majority of his moveset intact too. His projectiles, his cannonball attack, his command attacks; even his flurry kicks make a return in the form of a DM. Indeed, that cannonball move of his in particular is a lifesaver, dealing extensive damage, dealing good chip damage, moving across the entire of the screen and comboing into just about everything, too. His projectiles don’t tend to be too useful, apart from his flame whirlwind which he launches across the ground. This move is brilliant as well because it will knock the opponent into the air, allowing for a follow up attack. Not only can it be linked into his cannonball attack and other regular moves, but his supers as well, meaning he can devastate the opponent rather easily if he can get a move in edgeways. The only problem I found with him is that the range for his combo-able normal is rather short, meaning that you have to be quite precise with him if you want to deal extensive damage. Other than that, he’s an utter joy to play as for the better part, with a rather insane and unique moveset which makes him rather unpredictable on the whole.
You also really get to see my continuing frustrations with Magaki in this game, especially the way that they AI effortlessly unleashes a swarm of projectiles in a way which isn’t humanly possible. It exacerbates the fight further, and the fact that he is like that innately (which is to say, it’s a core part of his AI which never changes) means that he just feels like a way to troll you rather than challenge you, as Sissy did in Matrimelee or Sankuro did in Sam Sho V.
Jyazu is a great character on the whole though, and it’s great to have a second video on a character I would have only covered once otherwise. Up next, I look at the other Kizuna Encounter character in this game.
