This is a re-recording of the presentation I gave at nor(dev):con (nordevcon) in 2022. As a system architect (or ex-system architect), very little of my time was spent doing architecture. The presentation itself is split into three main bits:
1) What architecture is - how we got from programmer analysts and coders to just programmers, in the same way that programmers are future. Software vs System architecture.
2) What the day job entails. What do you spend your time actually doing as a systems architect.
3) Some tips and tricks about what to do with architecture, how to better present your work.
