The Pearl Pattern (rice, tangled) is another simple pattern for beginners, as it doesn't require complex elements. The entire pattern consists of alternating knit and purl stitches. Alternating is necessary not only within one row, but also in each column.

There are two types of pearl patterns: large and small.

Large Pearl Pattern Diagram:
Row 1 – Alternate knit and purl stitches: 1 knit, 1 purl.
Row 2 – Knit according to the pattern, that is, knit knit stitches over the knit stitches of the previous row, and purl stitches over the purl stitches.
Row 3 – Knit knit stitches over the purl stitches of the previous row, and purl stitches over the knit stitches.
Row 4 – Knit according to the pattern.
Next, knit every even row according to the pattern, and alternate stitches in the odd rows.

Small Pearl Stitch Pattern:
Knit the first row similarly to the Large Pearl Stitch pattern, then change stitches in each row. The difference between the small pearl stitch and the large pearl stitch is the lack of rows knitted according to the pattern.

The pearl stitch can be used in knitting a variety of items: from scarves and hats to cardigans and blankets.
