The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, infamous for the catastrophic nuclear accident, has unexpectedly transformed into a haven for diverse wildlife. Despite its history, the area has witnessed a remarkable increase in the population of large mammals, particularly on the Belarus side. A recent five-week survey conducted using camera traps revealed the presence of a bison, 21 boars, nine badgers, 26 gray wolves, 60 raccoon dogs, and 10 red foxes. This remarkable resurgence of wildlife stands as a testament to the resilience of nature and serves as a beacon of hope amidst the aftermath of a devastating event.
