ETDPortal Version 1.2 Quick Guide 1/2: Installation and Configuration
Major bug fixes and modifications of ETDPortal software [1], resulted in ETDPortal version 1.2 [2].
ETDPortal makes use of the OAI-PMH protocol V 2.0 [3] to enable the creation of federated downstream services. In essence, ETDPortal can harvest digital objects from multiple OAI-PMH compliant repositories. THINK! DSpace, EPrints, ETD-db, Omeka, et al.
There are currently two known large-scale production deployments--the South African National Electronic Theses and Dissertaion (NETD) portal [4] and the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertation (NDLTD) portal [5]. These two deployments illustrate the effectiveness of the software.
This screencast is an attempt to show how EASY it is to setup and configure the ETDPortal software. Plans are underway to replace the internal Apache Lucene search engine with the much more flexible Apache Solr. In addition, there are a number of feature enhancements lined up...
